Here we go!
10 Qualities of a godly man!
Allow me to preface with my story.
I gave my life to Jesus 12 years ago.
16 years old, insecure and with no idea what a godly relationship was.
I experienced few relationships but all were toxic and worldly.
Boys did not see the value that Jesus saw in me which only strengthened my love for Him.
I didn’t know relationships could be enriching.
All I knew was that, though I didn’t want to experience more loss and heartbreak, I couldn’t deny that I longed for a partner.
It took years for my heart to heal and begin to understand that relationships can actually reflect God’s heart and a man had the capabilities to love me like Jesus loves us.
God brought me that man…
I’m not telling you my journey was easy.
It took 11 of those twelve years to get here.
But I can tell you that
he’s worth waiting for.
God knows exactly what He’s doing!
He’s preparing your heart, Sis.
I know waiting is hard, but I promise you that when you meet that man that God intended for you…
You’ll be so happy that you trusted God!
I wrote a list in my notes almost 5 years ago, of all the qualities I wanted to see in my future husband.
It was supposed to be only 10 things… I wrote over 60 things.
I would think it was too much,
Yet I would know that nothing is too hard for God.
The man God had for me is everything on that list!
I didn’t make it happen!
God put each of those qualities in my heart 5 years ago, I believe because He was hinting towards the man He was going to give me.
I won’t give you all 68 things on my list.
You don’t need any certain amount of qualities on your list; I’ll let you and God converse about those little details.
Here is 10 qualities about the godly man God gave me!
Loves the LORD
“Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’”
Matthew 22:37 NKJV.
The most important thing is loving the LORD and seeking His heart!
There is nothing quite like seeking God alongside a man who loves the LORD and leads your relationship to further serve Him and walk in His ways.
Selfless
“Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.”
I Corinthians 10:24 NKJV.
He doesn’t look to me to fulfill something he wants…
Rather, he looks at me as someone he can give love and kindness to.
He’s well aware that he was created to rest in the LORD’s love towards Him and to give love to others.
Protective
“A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple pass on and are punished.”
Proverbs 22:3 NKJV.
I absolutely admire how he secures our relationship and protects us from evil.
He doesn’t take lightly the things that could come and damage our relationship with each other or with Jesus.
He’s diligent and observant; not allowing temptation or evil to trespass.
Generous
He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor.”
Proverbs 22:9 NKJV.
I noticed this about him right away!
He was not only generous with me, he was generous with all people!
He loves giving!
Whether that be money, time, or lending his full attention.
Generosity is just a part of who he is!
Faithful
“Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a faithful man? The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.”
Proverbs 20:6-7 NKJV.
Loyalty is a natural response for him!
He resolutely stands firm on the decisions he makes and is committed wholeheartedly to it.
It fills my heart with so much joy and confidence to know how committed he is to our relationship.
Humble
“For He instructs him in right judgment, His God teaches him.”
Isaiah 28:26 NKJV.
Humility is like a lovely aroma that fills a room with freshness!
Seeing a man humbly acknowledge that he still has much to learn, it’s quite breathtaking.
It delights my heart to see him accept being wrong in order to gain wisdom!
Patient
“Love suffers long and is kind;…”
I Corinthians 13:4 NKJV.
I’ve been through a lot of mentally destructive things in my life and I required a lot of healing from the Lord.
Can I just say that the man God gave me not only loved me in a way that helped me heal, but he was so patient with me.
I didn’t need to be perfect.
I didn’t need to be as a woman who’s never been hurt.
He was willing to help me carry my burdens and address the wounds that others have inflicted.
Never did he rush me to be ready.
He just waited and everyday, he loved me.
He loved me just to show me that I’m loved.
Loves like Jesus
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,”.
Ephesians 5:25 NKJV.
He lays down his life everyday!
I’ve never seen any man love so much like Jesus loves.
It shocks me still…
I’m filled with so much wonder when I experience him give up his desires to show love to people.
It inspires me to love more like Jesus!
Leads like Jesus
“Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being Lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock;”.
I Peter 5:2-3 NKJV.
He is not forcible or demanding.
My compliance doesn’t determine his self esteem.
He is a great example of humility, honor, respect, love and kindness; yet he doesn’t manipulate or strong-arm me to act in a certain way.
Honestly, he is just a humble shepherd, whom I’m inspired to follow.
He gets that from Jesus!
Trusts in the LORD
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV.
Sometimes, I get worried!
Everyday, I seek to trust God over all my circumstances, yet I stress over little things.
I overthink and I struggle to place my faith in The LORD in times when what I fear looks like the more probable outcome.
He always reminds me that God is beyond my understanding!
If I’m struggling to lean on God, he holds me and leans into God with me.
There are no words for that kind of fellowship.
I’m so thankful that God blessed me with this godly man!
He has way more than 10 godly qualities but these certainly are qualities I encourage you ladies to pray over your future husband.
Wives! Pray this over your husbands!
They need the help of the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus and surrender their lives to Him!
Men! Ask God to help you in these areas!
Not just so you can be a good husband someday, but for the purpose of becoming a man after God’s heart!
Let these 10 qualities be just the beginning!
I pray that this sets your focus, not on searching for men who fit these qualities, but on the LORD; who loves you so much and will lead you to one day meet that special man of God.
Fix your eyes on Jesus!
Trust that He loves you!
Remember that He is your Husband first!
Let Him have your heart…
