There is immeasurable beauty and benefit of keeping God’s word in your heart!
Scripture confirms that keeping God’s word in our hearts is what helps us to actually walk in God’s ways.
“Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:11 NKJV.
“Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.”
Proverbs 7:2-3 NKJV.
It’s like holding onto a love letter in times when you are not around your beloved; the letters keep the words of love fresh.
It reminds you of the truth constantly, so you never fall into doubt.
Believing God’s words is what leads to actually walking according to God’s words.
This is why it’s so important to remember God’s word by keeping it in our hearts!
Today, I want to share
7 tangible ways that you can
Keep God’s Word in your Heart!
“My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.”
Proverbs 3:1-4 NKJV.
The first and best way to keep scripture on your heart is:
- Scripture memorization
The ability to have scripture in your mental library and able to be accessed at any time, surely helps you keep scripture in your heart.
This has always been a common religious practice because its effectiveness is undebatable.
We can memorize verses or passages at a time; however, it is imperative that in quoting scripture, we keep scripture in its context.
This ensures that God’s word isn’t misunderstood, so it can actually impact our hearts as God intended it to.
There are many methods that you can use to memorize scripture and keep God’s word on your heart!
I will show you some of the methods I use to help me hold onto scripture, throughout the day!
- Scripture cards
I have been making scripture cards for the past 5 years of my walk with Jesus, and the impact they have had on my faith is incredible!
I would carry them with me everywhere, put them on my desk, my lockers, the walls of my home… really, anywhere that I would spend my time.
They helped me to remember God’s truth in moments when I needed to hear it, but wasn’t around my Bible.

- Learn scripture based songs
Have you ever noticed that music has a way of bringing back memories?
We are more likely to remember something associated with music than if it was without music.
This is because music reactivates areas of the brain associated with memory, reasoning, speech, emotion, and reward.
Dopamine is released when music is processed in the brain and this causes the moment to be much more significant and memorable!
So, listening to scripture in song form helps you to remember it!
You can with make songs out of scripture on your own or you can listen to songs that are built on scripture.
We have made a playlist of songs that are scripture based and fit many music preferences!
So, whether you like upbeat music or chill music, you will find songs to add to your playlist that will help you keep God’s word in your heart.
- Scripture temporary tattoos
This is something I’ve done most of my life!
I wrote reminders on my hands and arms all of the time!
It’s an effective method of keeping things in mind.
I used this method to help me remember scriptures throughout my day, when otherwise I would let worries and stress drown the scriptures that I had on my heart.
Ink is not the best thing to put on your skin, so I cannot recommend that you follow my example in writing Bible verses on your body.
Nevertheless, there is a way to have scriptures printed on your skin beautifully, without the risk of ink poisoning!
