What do you notice about the following Bible verses?
“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13 NKJV.
“But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Deuteronomy 4:29 NKJV.
““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”
Matthew 7:7-8 NKJV.
The first thing that I notice is that they have the same theme…
Seek God and you will find Him!
The second thing I notice is that these verses are from the
beginning of the Old Testament,
the end of the Old Testament and
the beginning of the New Testament.
This means that this theme has not changed from the beginning all the way to today.
God is found by those who seek Him!
This is a promise that we all can hold onto.
If we want to find God, we need only to seek Him.
The question that remains is…
How do I seek God?
I’m glad you asked!
Here are two things that you can do to seek God.
Pray to God…
and,
Read God’s word.
These two things sound very simple and they are; however, if you’re just starting to get to know Jesus, it may still feel a bit daunting.
Starting your relationship with Jesus should never make you feel overwhelmed or terrified,
so allow me to show you practical ways to do these two things!
Here is
How to practically seek God everyday.
I know that seeking God seems more mystical, but it really is very simple to do.
Daily we seek food when we are hungry and a jacket when we are cold.
Seeking God is no different!
We seek when we are in need!
What we focus on, we usually head in that direction…
(See post below,
For further details regarding how our focus determines what direction we go in.)
THIS IS WHY GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO BAD PEOPLE
We know exactly how to seek and find because we do it everyday!
Seeking God is as simple as acknowledging that you have a need and instead of turning to the world to meet that need, you turn to God.
When you decide this, you head in that direction!
You begin to look for ways to see how God can meet your need.
Prayer is typically how we tell God about our need and naturally we look in God’s word to see if He ever addressed our need in the past.
These two things perfectly compliment each other; and when you apply both of these things together, it helps you seek God.
This can’t be something that you do halfheartedly, because seeking God is a spiritual interaction.
You can’t just check these boxes and expect to know God.
That’s like having a friend that you send a “good morning” text to every single day, but you never spend time with them or have deep conversations with them.
You may be acquainted with them, but you’re not seeking them and you certainly don’t know them on a genuine level.
If you’re ready to get God out of the acquaintance zone and into the friend zone, you have to actually seek to know Him with your whole heart!
Remember,
SEEK and you will find!
However, this friendship is not something that grows just because of your effort.
Of course, you seek Him, but you will need help to understand God’s word.
This is where the Holy Spirit comes in!
You seek God in prayer and you read His word, but it is God’s spirit Who guides you to understanding His word.
This is why you can’t just read God’s word halfheartedly.
If you do, you may just interpret God’s word using your own understanding, which doesn’t bring you closer to God; it could leave you confused or cause you to head down an unwise path.
My advice to you would be to
pray and read God’s word open-mindedly…
Don’t look for how God’s word relates to you.
Look to Get to know the heart of the One Who created you!
Going to God for wisdom will never disappoint.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5 NKJV.
Jesus completes this concept in
Matthew 7:7-11 NKJV…
““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”
If you ask to know Him, He will give you that.
So, if you seek God with all of your heart, He will make Himself found by you.
I created a daily to-do list that helps you seek God as you go about your everyday!
The Blessed To-Do List
The Blessed To-Do List is not just any old to-do list!
This worksheet offers task check boxes along with a section for larger goals and accomplished goals, so you can always keep in mind the ultimate goals that you have, even when the daily tasks get overwhelming.
Also included is a section for scripture!
This section was made to allow you an opportunity to keep God’s word close throughout your day, so you are more likely to remember and apply what you learned!
These Blessed To-Do Lists are great resources to use for growing your relationship with God!
The best way to keep God the center of your daily tasks and goals, is to start your day focusing on Him!
To do this,
I usually seek God first in the morning!
It’s the perfect opportunity to set the tone for the whole day;
Spending the first moments of my day praying and seeking God, in His word.
I used to write Bible verses on index cards and carry them with me during the day, so I didn’t forget about what I learned.
Scripture would be easily accessible, in the moments that I needed it the most!
The Hungry Still Blessed To-Do List allows you to keep scripture in close proximity as you accomplish daily tasks and move closer to your larger goals!
This is a practical way to seek God everyday!
It really is that simple!
Talk to God in prayer…
about EVERYTHING!
Trust me, He cares about everything that has to do with you!
“casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
I Peter 5:7 NKJV.
Then read His word for guidance and to learn His heart!
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,”
II Timothy 3:16 NKJV.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
Psalms 119:105 NKJV.
There is no perfect time to read His word, and there is no prayer that will be heard more than others.
Just go to Him…
He will respond.
