Have you ever thought that you could fall from grace?
I have experienced and observed that this fearful thought is a common visitor to the minds of Christians.
I’m well acquainted with this fear myself, especially if I feel that I have failed morally in some way.
However small the failure, I feel tormented by the idea that I probably failed more than grace had capacity to cover.
Have you ever wondered this about yourself?
“There is grace for others, but I messed up too bad for grace to cover me.”
“After everything I’ve done, grace doesn’t apply to me.”
“When I was young, I was a good church kid, but surely now I’ve fallen from grace.”
If our deeds stray from the laws and expectations stated in the Bible,
we start to see ourselves as too far gone.
What if it’s true?
Is it possible to fall from grace?
The Bible actually addresses this question precisely!
Here is the answer:
“You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have
fallen from grace.”
Galatians 5:4 NKJV.
Yes, we can fall from grace!
Why does this possibility exist?
Well, what is grace?
Grace is undeserved pardon or favor.
This means that grace cannot be earned!
Which also means that it cannot be taken!
So, the only way to be separated from grace, is to try and earn justification through your good deeds.
We could never earn justification nor can our good deeds cover our offenses against God.
If we try to earn innocence or justification we not only are unable to do so because we all have already earned judgement, but we also reject grace!
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,”.
Romans 3:23-24 NKJV.
Grace is a free gift given through Jesus Christ and His sacrifice.
If you choose not to accept that grace and rather just try and be a good person and follow all the rules in the Bible, you will never actually achieve righteousness.
You will never earn with works, that which grace provided freely through Jesus!
The only way that you could fall from grace,
is if you reject grace.
There is nothing more hopeful than this!
“you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.”
This one verse may sound scary, but it is what sets us all free from trying to be “good people” and earn right standing!
It reminds us that grace is given to those who can’t earn righteousness.
The choice to try and be that good person who fits into the perfect religious mold, is a direct disagreement with God’s word and a rejection of what Jesus did on that cross.
If you truly trust that Jesus died on that cross for your sins, you have grace through His death and resurrection.
That grace cannot be removed by any failure or shortcoming.
Therefore, you don’t need to be good enough anymore because Christ was perfect!
So perfect that His innocence was enough to cover our guilt!
His goodness was enough to cover our bad!
Jesus’ perfect love covered all of our religious failures and moral shortcomings.
Never again, be afraid that your mess up made God change His mind!
Jesus didn’t give His life because you were such a good person, who did everything in the best Christian manner; He died to give you grace because you couldn’t earn it for yourself!

Remember that
the only way to fall from grace,
is to reject it and attempt to be good enough on your own.
