Did someone say, Christian movie night?
There is no better way to kick off the season than gathering with the flock, over some snacks; while watching faith-building and entertaining movies!
Yes, Christians have movie nights too!
Although, I have seen this question a lot…
Should Christians be watching movies and shows?
I have struggled with this question, as well.
So, before we start that Christian movie night, let’s get this one question answered.
Should Christians Watch Movies and Shows?
On this blog, I frequently talk about how too much sensory consumption is not a good thing…
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that you should never consume anything with your senses!
On the contrary!
“I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God.”
Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 NKJV.
Sensory consumption is necessary, just like physical consumption.
As there are good and bad things to consume physically, the same goes for sensory consumption.
Some things provide nourishment and energy, while others lack nutritional benefits, but taste awful good.
There are sensory things that give your soul energy and health!
Still, there are sensory things that drain your soul of richness and health, yet feel so good in the moment.
Movies can be a good thing to consume visually and audibly; though sensory consumption, like physical consumption, should not be all the time!
Yes, movies can be good!
“Test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.”
I Thessalonians 5:21-22 NKJV.
This is a pretty practical way of discerning what is good for your soul to consume.
Test all things!
As you check nutrition facts before consuming food, look at the spiritual nutrition facts!
(That’s what the synopsis or the movie trailer is for!)
Hold movies and shows up to God’s word and if you’re not sure seek God about it in prayer.
If it encourages you to seek the LORD, fear Him and strengthens your faith, enjoy that soul food!
Although, if you sense a breach of scriptural integrity or that it makes light of wrongdoing or sin, I encourage you to not put that in your mind.
Not out of judgment, just coming from a girl who wishes she didn’t have certain images and ideas in her head.
The junk food we let into our minds just leave us feeling empty again, anyways; while goodness truly satisfies our soul!
“Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.”
Isaiah 55:2 NKJV.
Besides, it’s rough to fight in your mind all the time.
It has caused so much discontentment, frustration and stress in my life, so…
I encourage you to not mix opposing thoughts, to avoid starting a war in your mind.
Yes, I know that the flesh will still war with your spirit…
All I am saying is,
why give the flesh ammunition to fire at your spirit!
Now that we know that movies can be a good thing for our soul to enjoy, let me tell you my recommendations!
